Research Associate

AlgiKnit is a biomaterials company integrating science and design into textile production.
Addressing the ecological damage caused by the fashion industry, AlgiKnit is creating durable
yet rapidly degradable yarns. We envision the next generation of sustainable, wearable and
ethical materials, produced within a closed-loop life cycle.
AlgiKnit is looking for a talented and motivated individual to work in a dynamic start-up
environment assisting our lab and sourcing team at our Brooklyn office. Our employees gain a
unique and fulfilling experience by developing and executing hands on approaches to
sustainably-minded strategies that directly support our team. With a focus on lab practices and
global sourcing methods, this individual will work on supporting our research team in and outside
of the lab, including material testing and analysis, fiber spinning, and fiber characterization. Our
team members benefit from a small, close-knit working environment as all facets of our business
are done collaboratively in our shared facilities.

Work independently and in a team setting to develop experiments
Prepare fiber formulations and process
Execute fiber and polymeric material characterizations
Analyze data and create systems for cross-team communication
Maintain detailed and accurate records
Communicating with global collaborators and suppliers
Sourcing logistics on a variety of scales
Develop lasting relationships with like minded professionals

Required Skills:
Efficient and effective communication skills across an interdisciplinary team
Strong foundation in chemistry/biochemistry and wet lab processes
Self-starter who can work independently with minimal direction
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects
A focus on and dedication to milestone completion
Learns quickly and has a head for problem solving
Professional, detail oriented, and excellent in time management
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Familiar with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Textile and fiber knowledge/background is a plus
Able to learn new processes quickly and put them into practice
A passion for sustainability and circular economies
3-D printing and modeling experience
Aptitude for building and hands-on problem solving

Job Details:
Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or relevant disciplines
