Psychological Services Associate, Corrections

THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution at Phoenix is seeking a highly motivated Psychological Services Associate, Corrections to join our Psychology Department.

  • Work Hours – Tuesday- Saturday 8:00 am- 4:30 pm
  • 40 hour work week
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: A Master's degree in psychology or a closely related field, which includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology, counseling, educational counseling, rehabilitation, human development, learning, or motivation.

Applicants who currently possess or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors will receive a two (2) pay scale level increase. Applicants are required to provide documentation to their hiring Human Resource Office indicating they possess one (1) of the above licenses.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Psychological Services Associates (PSA), Corrections, provide psychological services under the direct clinical supervision of a Licensed Psychologist Manager, to a population of individuals incarcerated in a State Correctional Institution. The purpose of this service delivery is to ensure individuals' mental health and general emotional needs are addressed efficiently and effectively during a period of incarceration with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Therefore, the PSA may assist the Licensed Psychologist Manager in planning and organizing outpatient mental health and psychological services for the State Correctional Institution, including the development and promulgation of patient's Individual Recovery Plans (i.e., treatment plans).

PSAs will administer psychological tests and intelligence tests, where applicable, under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist Manager. PSAs will also conduct mental status examinations under the supervision of the Licensed Psychologist Manager and may frequently prepare psychological assessments for custody level changes, parole decisions, and other relevant purposes under this supervision. Additionally, the PSA may conduct both individual and group treatment for individuals diagnosed with mental illnesses, individuals convicted of sex offenses, individuals dually diagnosed, and general population inmates as needed, for crisis related services. These therapeutic contacts may occur in any housing unit or program within a State Correctional Institution, as directed by the Licensed Psychologist Manager/designee. PSAs are expected to provide adequate clinical documentation of both individual and group treatments provided. PSAs may also be available to the institution's administration for mental health crisis intervention and may assist and participate in the Program Review Committee and Psychiatric Review Team, as needed.
